Underfloor Heating Electricity Consumption

All heating systems consume energy to heat. Therefore, even heat pumps, the most economical heating system worldwide, consume some energy for the cycle. The heating methods and efficiency of the systems also affect energy consumption.

However, underfloor heating systems are a prominent choice among heating systems preferred for energy conservation. Since underfloor heating does not contain high-energy-consuming components such as water pumps, electricity consumption is lower. Carbon film heaters, which directly heat the space, are a popular system used for underfloor heating.

Carbon film heaters are a type of heating element used in underfloor heating systems. Carbon film operates directly using electricity. Each square meter of film has a power output of between 220 and 240 watts. This means that 1 square meter of film, even if operated continuously without a thermostat, consumes 240 watts of electricity in one hour. However, carbon film heaters thermostat in direct proportion to heat loss and never operate continuously. The thermostat is activated or deactivated depending on the heat loss in the space. Thermostat control or activation depends on the heat loss in the environment in which they are located.

Underfloor heating systems can be used with various materials used for underfloor heating. For example, they can be installed over materials such as ceramic, stone, wood, or laminate. Therefore, underfloor heating systems provide a decorative appearance and create a more spacious atmosphere in the home’s interior.

Underfloor heating systems are a more economical and comfortable option for heating the space in which they are installed. These systems, preferred in both homes and offices, are energy-saving and an environmentally friendly heating method.

Underfloor heating systems are similar to other heating systems in terms of energy consumption. Every heating system consumes energy to compensate for heat loss. However, underfloor heating systems, especially carbon film heaters, operate using direct electricity and therefore have a higher electricity consumption.

underfloor heating

For example, for a 20 m² living room with normal insulation, the heat loss can be assumed to be 1600 watts. In this case, using 15 meters of carbon film heaters can increase the total film power to 3600 watts. However, since the heat loss in the environment is 1600 watts, the system will be on for an average of 25-26 minutes per hour. This means the consumption will be 1600 watts, not 3600 watts. In other words, the consumption will be 1.6 kW per hour.

For 8 hours of operation per day, this room will have a potential electricity consumption of 12.8 kW, or 384 kW per month. Using an electricity rate of 2 TL/kW, the monthly consumption cost will be 768 TL. Therefore, it is important to be mindful of energy consumption, be economical, and use a thermostat when using carbon film heaters. The table below shows the monthly electricity consumption costs for well-insulated sample rooms. Electricity consumption may vary depending on insulation, thermostat temperature setting, and operating hours.

Size Daily Consumption (8 hours) Total Monthly Consumption Electricity Consumption (2 TL/kW)
10 square meters 6.4kW 192 kW 384 TL
20 square meters 12.8kW 384 kW 768 TL
30 square meters 19.2kW 576 kW 1152 TL

This way, you can easily calculate your costs for each room and avoid any unexpected surprises before applying. Usage

After the connection of your plug, trigger switch functionality, and capability:

Step A – Disconnected.

You can check the ground connection. If you see any voltage on the banana connector you can say that there is a connection fault. And you should not use the device for your car. You can see normal device tests from the video.

Step B – Connected

CP voltage change by device, and device connected light can see from your EVSE. If you measure any voltage from the banana connector you can say that there is a problem. After that, you can check your EVSE product connections.

Step C – Charging

This step will trigger the EVSE, and you will see the voltage from the banana connector. If you do not see any phase voltage you can say that there is a problem with your EVSE.

Also, the tester will provide the fuse for each phase. When you use the tester for a load simulator it will protect your device from unexpected problems.
